Just Like It Never Existed (Drawings)
Drawings, Ink on Paper, 15×20 cm each, 2023
Drawing from different text layouts that serve distinct functions—such as religious, scientific, literary, or indexical—the work uses lines that mimic handwriting in various languages. While the text gives the impression of being readable, it remains unintelligible, creating a contradiction between the expectation of understanding and the actual lack of clarity. The act of blacking out text suggests an erasure or burning, yet the traces of the original writing still persist, emphasizing the tension between destruction and retention.
Just Like It Never Existed (Performance)
Performance, Paris, Cologne, 12 min., 2023
The performance explores the malleability of memory and the impact of authority on historical narratives. It is a visual depiction of the erasure of history, offering a thought-provoking exploration of how history is constructed and the role that memory and authority play in shaping it. The use of ink, a handwritten book, a dark outfit, a seated position at a desk, and a surveillance camera in the performance has been deliberately chosen to enhance the impact of the message. The choice of props and setup is intentionally constructed to create a powerful statement about the importance of preserving records and acknowledging the role of memory and authority in shaping our understanding of the past.
