Shop – Abutting
Photo series, Cairo, 2009
This series shows owners and workers standing in front of their little private shops. They often spend most of their time there, which makes those shops like a second home for them. That sometimes leads to a visual similarity between them and their places.
The photos were taken in Ard El Lewa, a neighborhood in Cairo that is characterized by long, narrow streets with high dwelling houses on both sides. These streets are full of shops, one after another, and on each side, with various commercial activities. The photo series was exhibited at the ArtElLewa contemporary art showroom, which is located between these shops.
